AI cannot do any of these things. Psychologists and mental health professionals are in increasing demand to oversee, validate, and supplement AI mental health tools.

AI can synthesize research, generate literature reviews, and draft academic content. It also hallucinates citations, misrepresents findings, and presents speculative conclusions with the same confidence it applies to established facts.

Academic integrity requires human researchers who can evaluate whether AI-generated research summaries accurately represent the sources they cite — and whether the conclusions follow from the evidence. This is a skill that requires domain expertise, not just general intelligence.

7. Regulatory and Compliance Decisions

AI is being used to assist with regulatory compliance across healthcare, finance, environmental law, employment law, and data privacy. Compliance errors are not just expensive — they can result in criminal liability, operating license revocation, and reputational damage that takes years to repair.

Compliance professionals, attorneys, and domain specialists are increasingly needed to review AI compliance outputs before they are acted upon — because the cost of an AI compliance error is not a corrected answer. It is a regulatory investigation.
